Taking a hat-trick by a bowler is nothing short of a miracle. And every bowler is not a magician who can do miracles with the ball.
However, the few bowlers who can be counted by their fingers have the knack of picking up hat-tricks not only once but several times. The Indian Premier League (IPL) which is arguably the most challenging tournament for bowlers has witnessed a few of them take two or more hat-tricks.
Let’s Talk About The Bowlers With Multiple Hat-Tricks In The IPL
1. Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh has the distinction of being the first and the only bowler so far to take two hat-tricks in the IPL. Both his hat-tricks were within the same season when he was captain, coming just 17 days apart!
The left-arm spinner’s first breakthrough was against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the year 2009. The RCB was then in a good place scoring 80 runs against the loss of 3 wickets at the 11.4-over mark. But with Yuvraj’s double strikes, by the end of the 12th over, they had collapsed to 80 for 5.
The Kings XI Punjab’s spinner dismissed Robin Uthappa as well as Jacques Kallis. After that Yuvraj returned in the 14th over and dealt another blow to finish his hat-trick.
Later Yuvraj made a contribution with the bat scoring 50 runs, but Punjab lost the match. Even though Punjab lost, the all-rounder was awarded the Player of the Match (POTM) title.
Exactly seventeen days later, Yuvraj once again gave the audience a POTM performance, but this time against the Deccan Chargers.
Yuvraj’s second hat-trick came close to matching his first. However, this time the event was tougher with Punjab needing to guard 135 runs.
And Yuvraj came forward like a true captain. Deccan were progressing smoothly in their chase at 73 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. But Yuvraj got his first wicket at the end of the 12th over.
The left-handed bowler made a comeback in the 14th over and took two more wickets in the first two balls of the over. Thus, he left the Deccan team in ruins at 79 for 5. These consecutive dismissals not only put the brakes on Deccan’s chase but also allowed Punjab to win the match by the narrowest of margins, just one run.

2. Amit Mishra

You would think that getting two hat-tricks is a huge milestone. Certainly it is, but Amit Mishra went a step further and got three, which is the highest for any bowler in the IPL!
Mishra’s first hat-trick was while playing for Delhi Daredevils against Deccan Chargers in 2008. It was the last over of the match and Mishra had to defend 15 runs.
And the leg spinner did it to perfection. He took Deccan’s three batsmen out on the first three deliveries and changed the game in Delhi’s favour. This also gave Mishra his best-ever bowling figures of 5 for 17 as Delhi won by 12 runs.
Three years later, Mishra was back with the same team he had taken his first hat-trick against, i.e. Deccan Chargers. This time, he put the game completely out of Punjab’s reach at the start of the slog overs.
Punjab had almost given up hopes of a win at 102 for 5 while trying to chase a target of 199 runs. Then, Mishra’s three wickets in the 16th over gave Deccan almost a certain victory. The bowler snared another batter in the 18th over to end up with the impressive numbers of 4 for 9.
Mishra’s third hat-trick was for another Hyderabad-based team in 2013. In a low-scoring match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Pune Warriors, Mishra’s performance was the game-changer.
SRH managed to score only 119 runs, which was below par, in the first innings. Pune’s score was 106 for 6 at the end of the 18th over.
Pune required 14 runs from two overs. It was a fairly simply equation to accomplish. But Mishra changed the game in the 19th over and led SRH to victory.
He dismissed a well-set Angelo Mathews on the second ball. Then on the last three balls of the over Mishra finished Pune’s lower order to complete his third IPL hat-trick.
Mishra picked up four wickets for 19 runs in total in four overs. Additionally, he scored a vital 30 runs off 24 balls earlier in the match.
3. Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal who is the highest wicket-taker in the league has now become a member of this exclusive club. He has achieved two hat-tricks nearly three years apart.
The leg-spinner got his first with Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2022. Chahal’s timely hat-trick lifted RR back into the match.
KKR were comfortably moving towards victory at 178 for 4 in their chase of 218 runs. Then Chahal turned the contest around by taking four wickets in the 17th over.
He got the first one on the first ball, while the other three came on the last three balls that upped his wickets tally to 5 for 40. This performance led the RR side to win by seven runs after successfully defending their total.
Fast forward to 2025, Chahal registered his second hat-trick against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), this time for Punjab Kings (PBKS).
The leg spinner had no impact in the first two overs he bowled and his figures were 0 for 23. But later, he was brought to bowl in the 19th over of CSK’s innings and finished with the impressive figures of 4 for 32.
Chahal’s opening was not good, he bowled a wide and then a six before getting the big wicket of MS. Dhoni. The CSK batters took a couple of runs on the third ball, then Yuzi tightened up their scoring.
The leg spinner took three wickets on the last three balls to stop CSK from getting 200 runs.
