In a major blow to Australia, the young all-rounder Cameron Green has gone out of the picture for the ODI series with India due to his injury. Australia have decided to bring Marnus Labuschagne, an elder statesman in batting, into the side as a substitute for Cameron Green. Interestingly, Labuschagne was dropped from the national ODI setup mainly because of his poor performance in one-day cricket. However, his strong performance in the Sheffield Shield and in the domestic One-Day cup made him a candidate for selection once again.
Cameron Green sustained the injury while attempting to get back into the white-ball bowling for Australia as per cricket.com.au. The talented all-rounder has been only a batsman since he recovered from a series of injuries that threatened to end his career. Just when it appeared that he was on the right track to make a comeback as a genuine all-rounder, the tender side ruined his chances of being selected for the crucial ODI series against India.
Marnus Labuschagne is a right-handed batter who has played 66 ODIs and scored 1871 runs at an average of 34.6 with a strike rate of 83.6. Since 2024, Labuschagne averaged only 241 runs in 12 ODI innings before being dropped from the Australian side due to non-consistent returns.

On the contrary, the batter has been showing great batting form in the ongoing Australian domestic season, scoring 237 runs, including two superb centuries, in three innings at an outstanding average of 79 and a strike rate of 103.95. His recent matches have displayed his batting brilliance, which led to his ODI recall as a result of Australia picking him as Cameron Green’s replacement.
Green is foreseen to assume the all-rounder role, as he did for the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the past, and several franchises were keen on his arrival in the mini auction. However, with the injury now hampering his bowling abilities, the Australian all-rounder may not attract the same amount of interest at the IPL auction as before.
Cameron Green now joins Alex Carey, Josh Inglis and Adam Zampa in the list of Australian players who will be unavailable, either completely or partially, for the ODI series against India. While Carey was sent back to Australia for Sheffield Shield duty from the ODI squad, a calf strain has sidelined Josh Inglis for the first ODI, with Josh Philippe taking over his place in the squad. Meanwhile, Australia’s top spinner Adam Zampa will not be playing the first ODI because of a family emergency. Matthew Kuhnemann, a left-arm spinner, could be given the nod to play the first match at Perth Stadium in Zampa’s absence.
