Bangladesh cricketers couldn’t match the fitness standards in a recent 1600m time-trial test. In response, Nathan Kiely, who looks fitness coaching, says he is not concerned despite several players failing to meet standards in recent trials, stressing that individual progress and overall commitment should hold more value.
Speaking at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday (August 12), Kiely revealed that while some players didn’t post the best results in the new 1600m time trial, many achieved personal bests in other areas.
“I wouldn’t say there’s lacking in any area. For example, some players might not get the best time trial. But what you guys might not see is that they’ve actually got personal bests in the gym with their strength work,” Kiely said. “We’ve been focusing on the individual player and it’s all about understanding where they’re going well and where their work-ons are.”
Kiely praised the players’ attitude, noting that 12 personal bests were recorded in the latest time trial. He also expressed confidence in the team’s physical readiness for the challenging UAE heat during the upcoming Asia Cup T20 in September.
