The famous green jerseys of the Jamaica Tallawahs could soon be seeing the field again in the Caribbean. According to reports, the GMR Group, co-owners of the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, are on advanced talks to revive the 3-time CPL champions.
One of the inaugural franchises when the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) began in 2013, Tallawahs has not participated in the last 2 seasons. Their most recent owner, Kris Persaud, returned the team rights back to the league in 2023 and later launched another franchise known as the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.

But now the winds are changing. After making new investment in Sabina Park in Kingston, the Jamaican government has been pushing for the return of the league. Officials announced that they were in the final steps to welcoming back a CPL team a few months ago.

The narrative begins with the GMR Group. The Indian conglomerate already enjoys a huge global cricket portfolio, operating teams like Dubai Capitals in the ILT20, Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket, Hampshire in county cricket, and Southern Brave in The Hundred.
ESPN Cricinfo reports the GMR group now eyes an investment in Jamaica Tallawahs. The GMR officials were said to have been in attendance at the CPL 2025 final, and they are now seen as front-runners for the Tallawahs.
Implications of the deal would mean that the CPL will grow to a 7-team format, so there will be more matches and fan engagement.
The Tallawahs, having won 3 CPL titles, remain among the most iconic brands in Caribbean cricket. Their reactivation, with the backing of the Delhi Capitals’ owners, may usher in a new era for the franchise as well as Jamaican cricket.
However, for now, these reports remain speculative, as neither the Delhi Capitals nor the GMR group has come forward to provide any clarity.
