After commencing professional cricket at the age of 15, an 18-year-old Ayush Mhatre is set to captain the Mumbai team in the Buchi Babu tournament. With scoring back-to-back Test centuries in England in his U19 stint and leading ODI series 3-2, the selectors kept him as the first choice. A list of players with 17 members has been confirmed. Held under the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, a nearly one-month-long event will be organised in Chennai from August 18 to September 9.
As Mhatre is an emerging star, this appointment has underpinned his prominence in the arena of cricket. His effectiveness was visible in his short IPL journey with the five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings, leading to his rise as a skipper for the India Under-19 team for a recent tour to England in the summer. The cricket calendar highlights the next visit to Australia in the upcoming month.
