The clash of India and Australia is not just a cricket rivalry, it is a contest of egos, skills, and the most intense emotions. Each time these two enormous teams meet, the match is very entertaining.

Witnessing the collisions of the great centuries as well as the winning partnerships, the reputations of some of the best batters of the world have been built during the fray, which was nothing but an epic war.

In the white-ball series in 2025, the two teams will be playing one another; let’s take a look at who are the top five run-scorers in ODI’s between India and Australia—men that changed the hardship of the situation into the art of writing with the bat.

Most runs in India vs Australia Clashes

    5. MS Dhoni – 1660 runs

Always calm, always composed, and unreal clutch, MS Dhoni might not have had an excellent record but, his 1660 runs and an average of 44.86 came in some of the most pressure-filled games faced by India.

The ability of Meshu to finish the game and absorb pressure made him the difference between heartbreak and triumph more than once. Whether it was his 139-run inning in Mohali or his icy calmness in tight chases, Dhoni was the stone that India had against the fiery bowling attacks of Australia.

    4. Ricky Ponting – 2164 runs

The sole Australian on this list, Ricky Ponting, was the biggest enemy of India for more than ten years. The previous Australian captain managed to get 2164 runs with an average of 40.07, and most times, he would set the pace for the match with his typical pull shots and aggressive demeanor.

Ponting loved the big stage, like his 140* in the 2003 World Cup final against India, which is still a very sore point for many fans. He was ruthless, reliable, and menacing all at once—Ponting represented the never-say-die spirit of Australia.

    3. Rohit Sharma – 2407 runs

Batting finesse is a quality that very few batsmen possess and Rohit Sharma is one such player. He has refined that quality to bring about destruction when opposing Australia. In 46 ODIs, Rohit has amassed 2407 runs at a mind-blowing average of 57.30, which includes 8 hundreds and a record-breaking 209 in Bengaluru.

The execution of that double century still holds the place of one of the most brutal innings ever recorded in ODI cricket. Rohit had exhibited his mastery and technicality in such a way that he not only became the leading man of India in this contest but also the king who could conquer in any form of the game.

    2. Virat Kohli – 2451 runs

The current superstar of cricket, Virat Kohli, has already made a name for himself in case of knocking down unbelievable targets and most of that was against Australia. From 2009 to 2025, in 50 ODIs, he has mercilessly scored 2451 runs at an astounding average of 54.46.

His 8 tons, most of which came in difficult situations, show his fondness for the big moment. From Adelaide to Mohali, Kohli’s manner of calm aggression and miraculous consistency has made him one of the most respected and feared opponents of Australia.

    1. Sachin Tendulkar – 3077 runs

The ‘Master Blaster’ was at his most splendid against the Australians, whom he loved to destroy. From 1991 to 2012, his ODI career with them saw him scoring a total of 3077 runs off 71 matches, an average of 44.59, consisting of 9 centuries and 15 fifties.

Who would not recall his unforgettable 175 in Hyderabad (2009) or the ‘Desert Storm’ innings in Sharjah that won over even the Aussies? For a whole generation of fans, Sachin Tendulkar vs Australia was the epitome of greatness that was fearless, classy, and unstoppable.
