India and Australia are all geared up for the cricketing war of the year, starting from October 19, 2025. The tour will consist of a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series.

The 2025 tour will be the first biggest series for Indian cricket with Shubman Gill being the new ODI captain replacing Rohit Sharma. The switch from Rohit to Gill was quite the shocker to many since it was just a few months back that the former had led the team to a title win in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Gill will now be at the helm for both ODIs and T20Is while Shreyas Iyer will take on the role of vice-captain in ODIs.

At the same time, the return of two of India’s modern-day legends, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, has been one of the major highlights of the international cricket scene after a seven-month hiatus. Their last appearance was during India’s Champions Trophy win against New Zealand in Dubai this year.

The return of both the players has opened up the possibility that they might break a number of big records in the upcoming ODI series against Australia.

    Records Rohit Sharma can break:

    Records Rohit Sharma can break

    1. 500th International Match

Rohit Sharma is almost at the point of playing his 500th international match. In case he gets to play even one ODI in this series, he would become the 11th cricketer in the world to attain such a status. Also, he would be the fifth Indian in this context, joining the select circle of Sachin Tendulkar (664), Virat Kohli (550), MS Dhoni (538), and Rahul Dravid (509).

    2. 50th International century

Rohit has scored 49 international centuries in total till now. He only needs one more to claim the 50-century title, which would put him on a par with an exclusive group of batting greats. Having played 499 matches since his debut in 2007, the tour of Australia presents him with the perfect chance to reach this milestone.

    3. Most sixes in ODI history

Rohit Sharma has always been recognized for his power hitting. Now, he has a total of 344 sixes in ODIs and is just eight sixes behind the current record holder Shahid Afridi (351). If that happens, Rohit will be the one to break the record for the highest sixes in ODI history.

    4. 100 Sixes Against Australia

Rohit has the opportunity to be the first player ever to reach the milestone of 100 sixes against Australia in ODIs. Presently, he is 12 sixes away from hitting that iconic number.

    5. Third-Highest Run-Getter for India in ODIs

Rohit has tallied 11,168 runs in 273 ODIs till now. He is just 54 runs short of surpassing Sourav Ganguly (11,221 runs) and becoming India’s third-highest run-scorer in ODIs, with only Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar ahead of him.

    6. 1000 ODI Runs in Australia

The ex-captain has had an excellent time at the Australian grounds, racking up 990 ODI runs there so far. Just 10 runs stand between him and the unique distinction of being the inaugural player to reach 1000 runs in India–Australia ODIs played in Australia.

    Records Virat Kohli can break:

    Records Virat Kohli can break

    1. Most centuries in a single format

Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar are joint holders of the record for the most centuries in a single format, both with 51. Sachin’s were in Tests while all of Kohli’s have been in ODIs. If Kohli manages to get one more century in this series, he will not only pass Tendulkar but also become the holder of the record for the most centuries in a single format.

    2. Most runs against Australia in ODIs

Kohli has amassed a total of 2451 ODI runs against Australia, which puts him in a second position behind Sachin Tendulkar (3077). With a couple of good innings in this series, Kohli could catch up with Sachin’s record and at the same time establish his supremacy over the Australian team.

    3. Most fifties against Australia

Kohli has 15 half-centuries against Australia, which is the same number as Tendulkar. One more fifty will enable him to surpass Sachin’s record and become the player with the most fifties against Australia in ODIs.

    4. 1500 ODI boundaries

Kohli has already made a total of 1477 boundaries in ODIs, which consist of 1325 fours and 152 sixes. It is only 23 more boundaries that he needs to hit in order to reach the milestone of 1500.
