The ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025‘s eleventh round is going to be very interesting as the Bangladesh Women are going to play New Zealand Women on October 10th, 2023, at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. The selection of the match is at 3:00 PM IST, and both teams want to win to help themselves come back into the race and move up the table.
Recent Outings – Bangladesh
Bangladesh have shown at least as much resilience as development. They stormed into the World Cup with their first match against Pakistan, trouncing the latter down to just 129 runs and going on to score the required runs losing just three wickets. Their subsequent match almost led to a surprising defeat for England — having put 179 runs on a hard wicket and left the champions at 103/6, just then Heather Knight’s calm fifty and a few close umpiring decisions turned the match into England’s favor.
Before the World Cup, their 2025 season had already been a pointer of their growth. Bangladesh toughed it out in the Caribbean — a 9-wicket defeat was followed with a 60-run victory over West Indies and they very narrowly lost the series decider. They were very consistent during the World Cup Qualifiers, suffering only two defeats against Pakistan and West Indies, and thus they finished second over all and had wins over Thailand, Ireland, and Scotland.
In the September warm-up matches, Bangladesh did not fail to be noticed as they name of the game. Although their match with South Africa was rained off, a breathtaking one-run victory over Sri Lanka stamped their indominate spirit and preparedness for going through high-pressure matches.
Recent Outings– New Zealand
New Zealand, on the other hand, have suffered a difficult beginning in their quest to nail down their first win. They had the defending champions on the ropes at 128/5 but eventually lost the game by 89 runs after letting it slip. Their second match against South Africa was somewhat similar — a decent batting effort of 232, but the inability to defend it led to a loss by six wickets
New Zealand’s 2025 season before the World Cup was short yet promising. They won a 2-0 series against Sri Lanka after the first ODI was canceled, securing large wins of 78 runs and 98 runs. However, their momentum was lost right at the beginning of the global event — they lost both warm-up matches via the DLS method, by 4 wickets each to India A and India respectively.
The White Ferns have been battling with inconsistency, but still, they have sufficient experience and firepower to recover their ground. Leadership of Sophie Devine, Amelia Kerr, and Lea Tahuhu is the main reason the team is along with the winning stroke and thus, turning their campaign around.
Head-to-Head:
- Total Matches – 4
- New Zealand Women Wins – 2
- Bangladesh Women Wins – 0
The women of New Zealand and Bangladesh have met one another four times in ODIs, and the White Ferns lead the series comfortably with a 2-0 win and the two remaining games ended with a no result. In the series that just concluded, New Zealand welcomed Bangladesh to their shores in December 2022, and New Zealand took the first ODI by 8 wickets, but rain canceled the other matches.
New Zealand is very much in need to make their intentions clear through winning the game, whereas Bangladesh will aim to assert that their encouraging displays were not a coincidence.
