1. Australia – 422

If one goes by the figures, Australia are probably the best cricketing team in the world across formats. It has always been a commanding side that managed to succeed in every corner of the world.
It has an unmatched win ratio; no side has better status over it. Australia has won 422 matches out of the 877 played till now; against 234 defeats, 2 ties, and 219 drawn.
2. England – 403

England are the ones that introduced this interesting game to the world. They are the oldest nation to play this game and have a rich history with it. They played the inaugural test in 1877 against Australia.

England over the years have been through the classic ups and downs. Having played 1083 matches, winning 403, losing 330, and drawing 356, England is the only team to have completed more than 1000 matches of this particular format of the game.
3. South Africa – 187

South Africa became the third team to participate in test cricket. In 1909, they got test status and contested their very first test adversary England, at St. George’s. After that, they became a regular team for test matches. Their golden moment has been in 2025, when they won the third edition of the ICC World Test Championship.
Despite South Africa being under a 21-year ban, between 1970 and 1991, they still stand as the third-most test winners. South Africa have played 474 tests, having won 187 with 161 losses and 126 games ending in draws.
4. West Indies – 185

West Indies had become the fourth team after Australia, England, and South Africa to play test cricket. The Caribbean team was granted full membership in 1926 and entered test cricket in 1928 with their inaugural test against England at Lord’s.
On the whole, West Indies have played 588 matches, won 185, and lost 220, with one match ended in a tie and 182 in draws. There was also a period when games remained unbeaten by the West Indies, that was when they practically ruled world cricket.
5. India – 184

Team India was the first Asian team to acquire test status in 1926. They played their first match under this format in June 1932 against England at Lord’s. An Indian team made it to the finals of the first two WTC editions and is now one of the best in the business. They have played 595 tests, winning 184 and losing 186, with one tie and 224 draws.
