Bowling in T20 can be tough, especially when the pitch is set up to help the batsmen score. It feels like the odds are against you.
Remember when 36 runs in an over seemed impossible? Herschelle Gibbs did it against the Netherlands in the 2007 World Cup, and Garfield Sobers did it back in 1968. So how do those compare to the most expensive overs in IPL? Here are the seven highest scoring overs in IPL history.
Most expensive overs in IPL history
Bowler | Team | Opponent | Runs | Season |
---|---|---|---|---|
Prashanth Parameswaran | Kochi Tuskers Kerala | Royal Challengers Bangalore | 37 | 2011 |
Harshal Patel | Royal Challengers Bangalore | Chennai Super Kings | 37 | 2021 |
Daniel Sams | Mumbai Indians | Kolkata Knight Riders | 35 | 2022 |
Ravi Bopara | Punjab Kings | Kolkata Knight Riders | 33 | 2010 |
Parwinder Awana | Punjab Kings | Chennai Super Kings | 33 | 2014 |
Khaleel Ahmed | Chennai Super Kings | Royal Challengers Bangalore | 33 | 2025 |
Anrich Nortje | Delhi Capitals | Mumbai Indians | 32 | 2024 |
1. 37 runs – Prasanth Parameswaran
The most expensive over in IPL was in 2011. Prasanth Parameswaran of Kochi Tuskers Kerala was hit for 37 runs by Chris Gayle of Royal Challengers Bangalore. Gayle went 6 (off a no-ball), 6, 4, 4, 6, 6, 4. This shows how good Gayle was and how tough it can be to bowl in T20. In that game Gayle scored 44 off 16 balls and helped RCB chase down 125.
2. 37 runs – Harshal Patel

In 2021 Harshal Patel of Royal Challengers Bangalore had a bad over against Chennai Super Kings, giving away 37 runs. Ravindra Jadeja was on fire, hitting five sixes (one off a no-ball), 4 and 2. This turned the game in Chennai’s favour and they reached 191/4. Jadeja scored 62* off 28 balls and also took 3/13 and was the Player-of-the-Match.
3. 35 runs – Daniel Sams

In 2022 Daniel Sams of Royal Challengers Bangalore gave away 35 runs in an over to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Pat Cummins, a bowler, showed off his batting skills, hitting four sixes (one off a no-ball), 2 and 2.
4. 33 runs – Parvinder Awana

In 2014 Parvinder Awana of Kings XI Punjab was on the receiving end of some big hits from Suresh Raina. Raina scored 33 runs in an over and took CSK to 202/7. But they still lost to PBKS who scored 226/6 mainly because of Virender Sehwag’s 122 off 58 balls. Raina started the over with two sixes and then hit the other balls for four – including a no-ball. Raina scored 87 off 25 balls and Awana finished with 2/59.
