The names of this cricket match are now washed away from the grounds of history. In the early 1990s, gripper bowling prevailed, and low totals rarely saw the defenders bowling their last over. But these days, with aggressive batting, crossing 400 runs has become a common thing for modern teams. The latest to join the record was Australia Women, who took 412 runs against India in New Delhi, thereby equaling their highest totals ever, set in 1997.

This article will provide a list of the top five highest totals in women’s ODI cricket history.

    1. New Zealand 491/4 vs Ireland – 2018

In their home ODI series against Ireland, New Zealand Women began the proceedings by posting 491-4 after opting to bat first. Captain Suzie Bates scored 151 from 94 balls and number-three Maddy Green added 122 runs from just 77 deliveries with 15 majestic boundaries and a six.

Along with Jess Watkin (62 off 59) and Amelia Kerr (81* off 45), plus 31 extras, New Zealand broke its 21-year-old record in Women’s ODIs. The hosts sealed the win by a massive 347 runs, setting the tone for a long and arduous week for the visitors.

    2. New Zealand 455/5 vs Pakistan – 1997

The second match of two ODIs set between Pakistan and the home side at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch in January 1997, saw New Zealand managed by Maia Lewis getting 455 from 50 overs and losing only five wickets in the process. Lewis herself top-scored in the innings with a knock of 105 off just 72 balls.

It was the first and thus far only occasion in one-day cricket when a team had crossed the 400-run barrier, and this score remained the highest ever women’s ODI total for over two decades.

    3. New Zealand 440/3 vs Ireland – 2018

Three days after amassing 418 runs at Vineyard, New Zealand piled on 440 for the loss of three wickets in their 50 overs against Ireland. Amelia Kerr, aged 17, was at the crease throughout the innings, thumping 232 runs from 145 balls with 31 fours and two sixes.

Leigh Kasperek joined in the party at number three with an attacking 113, while opener Amy Satterthwaite contributed a quick 61 off 45 balls in a century-plus stand with Kerr. Amelia Kerr then picked up five wickets, which steered New Zealand to a 305-run triumph and a 3-0 clean sweep.

    4. India 435/5 vs Ireland – 2025

The third ODI in the three-match series was held at the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium, Rajkot, in January 2025. Indian captain Smriti Mandhana shot 12 boundaries and seven mammoth sixes in 80 balls for 135. Her younger partner Rawal Pratika also stamped her presence in the match with 154 runs off 129 balls. The two opener batters put on 233 for the first wicket.

Richa Ghosh then went on to suppress the score with her 59 off 42 balls, and the home side finished with 435-5 in 50 overs-at that point in time, it was their highest-ever team total and the fourth highest overall in women’s ODIs.

    5. New Zealand 418 vs Ireland – 2018

New Zealand racked up a huge 418 without completing their 50 overs granary inside Ireland’s second ODI from their three-match away series in June 2018. Holding on to a 1-0 lead, opener Sophie Devine went berserk, scoring 108 from 61 balls, including 13 boundaries and 6 sixes, while Maddy Green came in at three and took barely 36 balls for her fifty.

New Zealand wrapped up a 306-run victory after constructing one of the largest totals ever in the history of ODI cricket.
