The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 16-member squad for the forthcoming West Indies series consisting of three marshalling matches. The first match of the series is scheduled to be played at Dhaka on October 18. The injured Litton Das is not part of the squad.
On September 22, while practicing at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai, Litton suffered a side strain just before the Asia Cup. He felt pain on the left side of his waist when trying to play a square cut.
After the examination by team physio Bayzid ul Islam, he was immediately withdrawn from training and later declared unfit for the rest of the Asia Cup. Scans indicated that he still needed more time to heal, so the team management opted to not take a chance with his fitness for the West Indies series.
In his place, Bangladesh has called back seasoned opener Soumya Sarkar, who was last seen in the national team during the Champions Trophy in Dubai. His re-entry signifies a great opportunity for him to showcase his talent again in the 50-over format.
Mahidul Islam Ankon, a wicketkeeper-batter who has been in excellent domestic form, is another thrilling addition. In 90 List A matches he has made 3,429 runs at an average of 44.53 with four centuries and 28 half-centuries among them.
However, some players from the last series against Afghanistan like opener Naim Sheikh and speedster Nahid Rana have been excluded from the squad.
Bangladesh will try to recover strongly after the disappointing 3-0 series defeat to Afghanistan in the UAE. Playing at home will be a great opportunity for them to get their confidence back before the next international fixtures.
