In a big change, the franchises of the Women’s Premier League will get a budget of INR 15 Crores for the next mega auction. In addition, the teams will have the right to keep up to five players from their current teams.
The WPL auction would most likely take place from November 25 to 29. Per ESPNCricinfo, the WPL, in an email to the teams concerned, instructed that the final retention lists of all teams must be in by November 5.
While the INR 15Cr budget has been set as the maximum purse amount, teams can keep five players, a maximum of three Indians and two foreigners, going into the mega auction. If a team keeps five players, they have to include an uncapped Indian player in the list. On top of that, teams will also have the Right-To-Match (RTM) card to repurchase their players let go in the mega auction.
It is important to note that the team retaining five players will not be able to use the RTM card during the auction. For instance, if a team keeps three players, it can use two RTMs to get back its two released players from the auction pool.
The first retention will get INR 3.5 Crores, the second one INR 2.5 Crores, the third one INR 1.75 Crores, the fourth one INR 1 Crore and the fifth one INR 50 lakhs. Thus, the total amount of INR 9.25 Crores will be subtracted from the team’s total if it retains five players, so just INR 5.75 Crores will be left for the mega auction in the team’s total.
