The final match of a cricket tournament is always a big contest and full of spectators. Every player’s dream is to be there and play a major role.
Just one good innings from a batsman can really turn things around. And the batsmen are well aware of this.
Thus they come in and run as if it was the last time they would bat. In the most important match, the IPL has witnessed several batters playing with fire.
So presenting here are the five batters who have amassed the most runs in the IPL final.
Most runs in an IPL final
5. MS Dhoni – 180 Runs

No one else has participated in the IPL finals as much as MS Dhoni has. The player has been a part of eleven finals! Now that’s a huge number, right?
Although MSD has not batted in all finals, he has amassed 180 runs through nine innings. His best performance was seen in the final of 2013, but unfortunately, the team lost. The keeper-batter hit not out 63 in a goose chase for 149 runs against the Mumbai Indians (MI).
4. Murali Vijay – 181 Runs

Another player from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the list. Murali Vijay played a vital role in CSK’s first two title wins.
His 95-run inning in the 2011 final led the Yellow Army to their second trophy. In total, the right-hand batsman made 181 runs in four innings.
3. Rohit Sharma – 183 Runs

There is a very interesting fact regarding Rohit Sharma and the IPL. What is it, you might ask? He is the only batsman on this list whose each run came in victories. Isn’t that cool?
So far, Sharma has been part of six IPL finals. You might have guessed the team he captained in five finals. The other time he played in a final was for Deccan Chargers in 2009.
Though Sharma’s score was unimpressive, some of his contributions were very important. Like in the final of 2009, his 24 out of 23 gave the Chargers a winning edge. And his 50 out of 26 and 68 out of 51 helped MI win a title in 2015 and 2020, respectively.
The right-hander made 183 runs in six matches with a 129.78 strike rate, which included two half-centuries.
2. Shane Watson – 236 Runs

What can be more remarkable than Shane Watson’s seemingly unbreakable spirit during the IPL 2019 final, when he bled from a wound but still delivered an extraordinary performance?
His 80 runs were not enough for CSK to win, but this injury did not deter Watson from giving his best.
In the finals of 2018, though, he dazzled with his classy batting. The Aussie all-rounder struck an unbeaten 117 to bring home CSK their third title – he became only the second batter in the IPL title clash’s history to score a hundred.
Watson, before this, had been a part of two finals – one with the Rajasthan Royals (2008) and one with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2016). The batter scored 236 runs at a strike rate of 163.88 across the four finals.

1. Suresh Raina – 249 Runs

Suresh Raina is the player with the highest number of runs in the IPL finals. His 249 runs in 8 innings are the highest by any player in the title matches.
During his stay at CSK, Raina often had to play the role of a ‘crisis man’, and the same was evident in the finals, where he displayed his talent.
His 57 not out was crucial for CSK, and this was their first title win in 2010. Again, Raina’s explosive 73 off 38 balls helped Chennai post 190 in the 2012 final. His mere 28 runs in 2015 were not enough to save his team. In 2018, however, the left-hander had a decent innings of 32 and took CSK to victory.
This is sufficient to prove his mettle with the bat in the most difficult match of the tournament. Hence, it’s no surprise that he maintains the top position.
