5. Mumbai Indians – 219/6 vs Chennai Super Kings in 2021
MI’s highest successful run chase was in 2021 against CSK. CSK batted first and scored 218/4, with Faf du Plessis (50 off 28), Moeen Ali (58 off 36) and Ambati Rayudu (72* off 27) all scoring half centuries. While chasing MI was 84/3 in 11 overs. Then Kieron Pollard went wild, smashing 87* off 34 balls. MI reached 219/6 and won.
4. Rajasthan Royals – 224/8 vs Kolkata Knight Riders, IPL 2024
Jos Buttler is one of the best overseas batsman in IPL and he’s played some great innings. One of his best was against KKR at Eden Gardens in 2024. KKR scored 223/6, with Sunil Narine scoring his first IPL century, 109 off 56 balls. RR was struggling and needed 96 off the last 6 overs. Buttler then scored 107* off 60 balls to get KKR to 224/8 and make history.
3. Rajasthan Royals – 226/6 vs Kings XI Punjab, IPL 2020
RR used to hold the record for the highest successful run chase in IPL history. They did it in 2020 against KXIP (now PBKS) in Sharjah, before PBKS broke it in 2024.KXIP’s Mayank Agarwal scored 106 off 50 balls in the first innings and they scored 223/2. While chasing 224, RR had a great start with captain Steve Smith (50 off 27). Sanju Samson (85 off 42) and Rahul Tewatia (53 off 31) scored half centuries and RR scored 226/6 in 19.3 overs and won. People mostly remember this game for Tewatia’s finish after he struggled to bat in his first 10-12 balls.
2. Sunrisers Hyderabad – 247/2 vs Punjab Kings, IPL 2025
SRH surprised everyone by chasing 246 runs against PBKS in match No. 27 of IPL 2025. After losing four games in a row, SRH let PBKS score 245 runs in their home game.
But, with amazing knocks from Abhishek Sharma (141 off 55), Travis Head (66 off 37) and Heinrich Klaasen (21 off 14), SRH chased the target easily. They recorded the second highest successful run chase in IPL history, winning by 8 wickets with 9 balls left. Abhishek Sharma was the Player of the Match for his batting.
1. Punjab Kings – 262/2 vs Kolkata Knight Riders, 2024
This is the record for the highest successful run chase in the tournament, by means of the Punjab Kings. Against Kolkata Knight Ridders, this was done at the ferocious Eden Gardens in IPL 2024. It was the 42nd game of the series, KKR set a huge 261/2, mainly through Salt (75 off 37) and Sunil Narine (71 off 32).
However, this took away nothing from the thrill of the contest. PBKS achieved 262/2 in 18.4 overs to win by eight wickets with eight balls to spare. A stunning century from Jonny Bairstow, who scored 108* off 48 balls, was complemented by super fast half-centuries from Prabhsimran Singh (54 off 20) and Shashank Singh (68* off 28).
